The newly married couple heads to Tulum, Mexico, for a romantic honeymoon storyline filmed shortly after production concluded in Vancouver. According to Alexandra Breckenridge, the tropical setting finally allows the characters to enjoy each other’s company without being overwhelmed by nonstop problems.

The actor joked that while Virgin River is often viewed as a comforting series, the characters constantly face major obstacles and emotional stress.

That’s especially true for Mel and Jack, who continue juggling careers, family responsibilities, business pressures, and conversations about adoption while trying to build a future together.

Behind the scenes, the Mexico shoot also became a major bonding experience for the cast and crew. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith explained that filming internationally created several unexpected challenges, forcing the production team to adapt quickly.

One amusing result of the smaller-scale shoot is that executive producer Richard Keith actually appears on screen as a tourist staying at the resort alongside Mel and Jack.

Despite the learning curve, Smith described the trip as unforgettable for everyone involved.

The stunning beaches, emotional romance, and behind-the-scenes camaraderie are expected to make the Mexico episode one of Season 7’s biggest highlights.
