Co-Stars Speak Out After Tragic Death of Virgin River Actor

The big bang theory artisans

Virgin River’s Mexico honeymoon episode became much more than just another filming location.

Following the end of Vancouver production, a select group of cast, producers, and department heads traveled to Tulum to continue filming Mel and Jack’s romantic getaway. According to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, the experience quickly turned into one of the most meaningful shoots the series has ever had.

Alexandra Breckenridge shared that she was excited to portray Mel and Jack in a calmer setting, away from the endless problems they usually face in Virgin River.

Over the years, the couple has navigated grief, career stress, business pressure, and difficult family decisions — making the honeymoon storyline feel especially rewarding for longtime viewers.

The production itself came with several learning curves, particularly because the team was filming internationally with a smaller crew. In fact, executive producer Richard Keith even appears briefly in the episode as a tourist at the resort.

Despite the challenges, Smith described the trip as a huge bonding experience for everyone involved.

“It was sincerely like a little family,” he explained, praising both the atmosphere behind the camera and the footage captured on screen.

With romance, tropical scenery, and emotional payoff for Mel and Jack, the Tulum episode could become one of Virgin River’s standout moments.
